Celebration of Learning Night

posted Sep 20, 2016, 5:28 AM by Kylie Holley

Our first Celebration of Learning Night was a huge success.  I could see the excitement of the kids to show their progress to you.  This is a learning experience for teachers, students, and parents.  It is not yet perfect, but we can certainly see the shift of the students' thinking from "what grade did I get" to "what have I learned and still need to work on".  That is so exciting!!  Portfolios will be a tool for teachers, students, and parents to constantly have specific information on an individual student's progress in order to help the child improve learning.

Thank you to those parents who came last night.  We think it is vital to have constant parent/school communication.  We hope that by having parents come to the school to review progress rather than just sending home a report card, we can open the door for even more open and honest communication and collaboration among teachers and parents.

I have attached the PowerPoint that was used for training parents last night, as well as our Academic Handbook.  If you were unable to attend last night, please contact your child's teacher to set up a time to review your child's portfolio.  Please review the training PowerPoint and Academic Handbook before coming in to review the portfolio.

Thanks to the teachers for their hard work in this new approach.  It is all for the growth of our kids!
